You will forget how this feels. Writing this letter is how you don’t.
You are told to take pictures, keep mementos, and save every first. But sometimes, it’s the words you write that become the most treasured keepsake of all.
Writing a letter to your baby can feel big but really, it’s just about capturing what’s in your heart right now, before time moves on.
What most people don’t realize is that you don’t have to wait for a special occasion. The most meaningful letters are written in the middle of the ordinary when you’re waiting, wondering, or simply feeling a little more in love with the future.
And if you’re not sure what to say, that’s okay.
It doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be real.
So start small.

If you need some ideas and tips, we are here to keep you on the right track.
When you begin your letter to your baby, start with the things happening right now. Where you are sitting, how you are feeling, and even what the weather is like. These details will matter later and will give your child the entire picture.
Your letter should be as honest as possible, so ensure you include all your hopes in it. This means you should tell your baby what you dream for them. Not just big dreams – little ones, too. Maybe you hope they love music, or have your sense of humor.
When we talk about honesty, we mean keeping it real for your future child. In short, you should talk about the things you are figuring out, the things you are excited for, but also the things that scare you. Remember that being honest and real is what your child needs.
Mention people who are excited to meet them. A grandparent’s message. A sibling’s reaction. These add heart to your letter.
Write about a milestone, such as the first kick, first ultrasound, or first time you bought baby clothes. Describe what it meant to you. These are all moments that bring a lot of memories and emotions.
However you sign off the note to your baby, let it be real. A simple, “I can’t wait to meet you,” is enough.
If you need additional inspiration for the letter for your baby, here are two simple examples:
Dear Baby (or name),
Today was a regular Tuesday, but you made it feel special. I felt your tiny kicks during my morning coffee, and I found myself smiling for no reason. Your dad keeps talking to you like you can already hear him, and every time he does, I feel a little less nervous. I hope you always know how loved you are, even before we meet.
Love,
Mom
Hi Little One,
You are not here yet, but already, you have changed our lives. I can’t stop thinking about who you will be – what you will laugh at, what stories you will want to hear at bedtime. Your grandparents are counting down the days to meet you, and your big sister keeps asking if you will like dinosaurs. I hope you always feel at home with us. We can’t wait to see you.
Love,
Your Family
These examples show you that you do not have to write a novel. Just a short note, a paragraph, or even a few lines will be enough. The words you write now will mean so much more in the years to come.
🤍 Keep It Somewhere That Lasts
Start while you’re in it. Not for perfection—but for connection.
A letter like this isn’t just a keepsake. It’s the beginning of your child’s story.
That’s exactly why we built My Peeps—a private space where these moments can live, grow, and be shared with only the people who matter most.
Because this isn’t just about saving a memory. It’s about creating a story they’ll one day step into.
