1. Save the sounds they make before they start to speak. You can record short voice notes on your phone (even if it’s just a few seconds). This is the part most people don’t tell you to save, but it’s one of the first things that changes when you have a baby. 2. Save your daily routines. Write a quick note about what a typical day looked like. It consisted of feeding, naps, gentle mornings etc, you know the drill. Keep it simple, just a few sentences (while it’s fresh).
3. Save the feeling that they needed you. They will still need you, but that also changes and takes a different shape with every new year. Take a photo of how they fell asleep because these details fade faster than you expect.
4. Save the moments where you thought they were not that special. Take some photos while they lie on the floor or stare at you. It’s all about what the meaning is behind those photos. 7. Save tiny milestones that you can’t document. This can be anything from the first time they really noticed something to the way they started reaching for you.
8. Save some physical first year keepsakes. Choose one or two meaningful items like an outfit or blanket, and photograph the rest.
9. Save photos you wouldn’t normally keep.
